Biography
Jim Davis started drumming at the age of 12, and took private lessons from Randy Roth (in Butler, PA - just north of Pittsburgh). In high school he performed in various high school music ensembles (e.g., jazz, orchestra, marching band) and local bands, and then auditioned for and was selected by Young American Showcase (based out of St. Petersburg, FL) as a drummer to extensively tour the U.S. and Canada with the groups Free Fare and The Edge (pop/rock). Following the tours he completed his education and received his Ph.D. from the MIT Media Lab (Cambridge, MA). He now resides in Columbus, OH where he works at Ohio State University and freelances as a drummer. He has his own home recording studio and practice/rehearsal space, and he is available for both live performance gigs and studio session calls (experienced playing with click tracks). Recent recording projects include sessions with Robin Snyder, Rodolfo Vazquez / Sean Ferguson, and Chris Schaffner (check out the Audio page). Jim is a member of the Percussive Arts Society and lists his major drumming influences as Steve Gadd, Thomas Lang, and so many more...
